Description

This series consists of correspondence between Mrs Santospirito and the Apostolic Delegation.

It also contains records relating to various ‘Spiritual Bouquets’ coordinated by Mrs Santospirito for the Pope. These ‘bouquets’ consisted of prayers collected from people in Australia for various Catholic Feasts, a record of which was sent to the Pope. For example, in 1949 for the Feast of the Assumption, 115,950 Ave Maria’s including Rosaries were collected from members of the Italian Catholic community. Mrs Santospirito sent to the Pope a record of the name, address and amount of prayers performed by each contributor.

This series also contains a letter to Pope Pius XII in 1946 from Italian community leaders in Melbourne (including Mrs Santospirito) following the departure of Fr Modotti, lauding his work with the Italian community.

These records were originally file ‘E3’ in Cassetto B.
