MISSION STATEMENT

The role of the Italian Historical Society is to collect, preserve, interpret and foster an understanding of the history and heritage of Australians of Italian origin within a multicultural Australia.

The IHS collection is open to anyone interested in the history of Italian migration and is enhanced and supported by professional collection management practices, education programs, and collaboration with mainstream organisations.

VISITING US

The IHS can be reached by train, bus or car. Travelling time, by bus or tram, from the city to Carlton is approximately 15 minutes. Our Melways reference is 43:J4. Car There is limited one-hour parking near University Street. Commercial car parks are available in Drummond Street and Elgin Street, between Cardigan and Lygon Streets.

Wheelchair access
There is a four-hour disabled parking space in front of CO.AS.IT. (7.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday). The IHS is wheelchair accessible, via lift, from the CO.AS.IT. entrance:

FEES

Access
Access to the IHS collection is by appointment only. An access fee may apply on a fee-for-service basis. To access the collection visitors must complete a User Registration Form and either email, post or return it in person to the IHS at least one week in advance of their appointment. The information provided in the form will help us locate the material that meets your needs.

Photocopying
In accordance with copyright law, selected documents can be photocopied for research purposes at 20c per page.

Reproduction of material
Requests for permission to publish items from the collection are subject to approval. Once your User Registration Form has been processed and you have viewed the collection, you may then submit a Permission to Publish Form. Please note that approval is subject to access and copyright restrictions.

Reproduction fees
Reproduction of IHS materials will incur charges. Fees are subject to negotiation with the Italian Historical Society. Please contact us for further information.

The IHS Journal
In the near future the IHS Journal will only be available online. The online editions of the Journal will be free of charge.
