Carlton was the centre of early Jewish community life in Melbourne. Visit the haunts of bygone generations, and learn how they established a sense of belonging in a new land.

Join Terry Ashton and discover Stone’s Synagogue, Monash House, Herzl House, the Chevra Kadisha, Smorgon’s Butcher Shop, site of the Carlton United Hebrew Congregation, and more. This walk will conclude with a tour of CO.AS.IT. Museo Italiano.

Meet at the San Marco in Lamis Social Club at 149 Canning Street (near the corner of Kay Street) at 10.15AM for a 10.30AM start.

The Lygon Street Walk is presented in partnership with Multicultural Museums Victoria. MMV comprises five institutions – the Chinese Museum, CO.AS.IT. Museo Italiano, Hellenic Museum, Islamic Museum of Australia, and Jewish Museum of Australia – that have come together to share their history, culture and art as one.
