CO.AS.IT., in collaboration with the University of Melbourne and Dr Mark Nicholls presents

Il conformista / The Conformist (Bernardo Bertolucci, 1970)

Tues 27 Aug 2019, 6.30-8PM, CO.AS.IT., 199 Faraday St, Carlton, VIC 3053

FREE EVENT – RSVP essential below.

Join us for a discussion of Bernardo Bertolucci’s film about Italy, fascism and all the psychological turning points which lead reasonable, ordinary people to subscribe to authoritarianism. In many ways The Conformist is a deeply personal film for Bertolucci and yet he describes it as a film about “life plus cinema” – a film very much about the creative processes, constraints, frustrations and joys of making movies in a global entertainment economy.

Dr Mark Nicholls is Senior Lecturer in Cinema Studies at the University of Melbourne where he has taught film since 1993. Mark has worked as a film journalist for ABC Radio and The Age and has a list of over twenty stage credits as a playwright, performer, producer and director.

Join Dr Mark Nicholls (Senior Lecturer in Cinema Studies, School of Culture and Communication, University of Melbourne) in a discussion of classic Italian film. Selected film clips will be screened.
