In this talk, Dr Maddalena Tirabassi presents a snapshot of Italian emigration in the first two decades of the new Millennium and sketches the challenges posed by COVID-19 to the new Italian mobility.

Maddalena Tirabassi, Fulbright scholar, is the Director of the Centro Altreitalie on Italian Migration, Globus et Locus and editor of the journal Altreitalie. She is in the advisory board of AEMI (Association of European Emigration Institutions), was in the advisory board of MEI (National Italian Museum on Emigration, Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and was a consultant for the exhibition “Fare gli italiani” (2011). She is the curator of the Italian edition of La storia degli italoamericani, Le Monnier Università (edited by William Connell, Stanislao Pugliese and Maddalena Tirabassi). Among her main publications: with Patrizia Audenino, Storia e storie delle migrazioni italiana dall’Ancien régime a oggi, Milano, Bruno Mondadori, 2008; I motori della memoria. Le donne piemontesi in Argentina, 2010 (winner of the Globo Tricolore award, also translated in Spanish); Itinera.
