Thanks to its unique connection with the Italian Community, the Italian Historical Society excels in collecting, preserving and sharing the Italian immigration experience in Australia.
The Italian Historical Society was established in 1980. Much of its collection has been donated by Italian migrants and their descendents, and while reflective of the experience of Italians across the country, the focus is Victoria.
Significant images, objects and stories from the IHS Collection are showcased in the popular Museo Italiano, a permanent exhibition which focuses on the experience and influence of Italian immigration to Australia.
While the Society is not able to undertake family history research we have assembled information and advice for researchers trying to find the records that tell their family story.
The Society is undergoing a major Review to improve management of, and access to the Collection. During this time public access to the Collection is not possible. We appreciate your support as we work hard to ensure the ongoing preservation and development of the Collection.
